Three Blackburn Students Named 2026 UA System Capitol Scholars

This week, the University of Alabama System announced the 18 students selected for the 2026 class of Capitol Scholars. The Capitol Scholars is “an immersive summer internship program in Washington, D.C., for exceptional University of Alabama System students who plan to pursue a career opportunity in or around the government” (University of Alabama System).

Three Blackburn students have been selected for this prestigious program:

Jacob Bailey (back row, left) is a junior from Carmel, Indiana, majoring in Finance with a minor in Political Science at the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Business.

Destiney Crawford (front row, center) is a junior from Pike Road, Alabama, majoring in political science and economics and minoring in liberal arts.

Sam Miller (back row, right) is a junior from Eufaula, Alabama, majoring in environmental policy and advocacy through New College and minoring in the Blount Scholars program.

The ten UA students selected as 2026 Capital Scholars stand in two rows

These students will have the opportunity to intern with various government offices and agencies in the summer of 2026 in Washington, DC. Additionally, the program will expose students to UA System alumni, government and industry leaders, and policy experts.
