In Spring 2025, Blackburn students visited Montgomery on a 2-day Protective Life Government Experience. Please use the itinerary below as an example of the range of activities that students engage in during this trip.

Thursday, January 18

5 p.m. – Session 1: Legislative Preview with Todd Stacy

6:30 p.m. – Networking Dinner with Advisory Board members and Fellows

Friday, January 19

9 a.m. – Session 2: Closing the Healthcare Coverage Gap (Ted Hosp, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama; Jennifer Harris, Alabama Arise; Sen. Robert Sewart, Alabama Senate; Dr. Marsha Raulerson, pediatrician)

10:30 a.m. – Session 3: Alabama Prisons: Sentencing, Reentry and Recidivism (Sen. Clyde Chambliss, Alabama Senate; Rep. Chris England, Alabama House of Representatives; Bennet Wright, Alabama Sentencing Commission)

12:00 p.m. – Networking Lunch with Advisory Board members and Fellows

2:00 p.m. – Session 4: Exploring Montgomery Museums

3:30 p.m. – Session 5: K12 Education Policy (Nick Moore, Education Policy Advisor & Coordinator, Governor’s Office of Education & Workforce Transformation; Mark Dixon, A+ Education Partnership; Rep. Terri Collins, House Ed Committee Chair)
