David is a native of Shefield, Alabama. He received a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Alabama in 1972. A CPA, he began his professional career with PriceWaterhouse&Co and rose to the position of senior audit manager prior to joining his family business, Paper and Chemical Supply in1980. He was promoted to CEO in 1984 and led the company to unprecedented growth expanding to three locations prior to Selling the company in 2015.
During his professional career he was active in several community and business organizations serving as Chairman of The Shoals Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the United Way of the Shoals, Chairman of the Northwest Alabama Easter Seal Rehabilitation Board, Chairman of Riverhill School, Chairman of The Shoals Business Incubator Board, chairman of Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club, chairman of Northwest Shoals Community college foundation board. He served on the President’s cabinet at The University of Alabama and the Foundation Board at The University of North Alabama.
Mr. Muhlendorf was Chairman of the Business Council of Alabama in 2008, served on the state leadership board of NFIB and was a member of the U.S Chamber of Commerce board in Washington, DC. He was a member of the advisory board at BBVA Compass bank of the Shoals (PNC) for thirty-five years and served on the board of North Alabama Medical Center. Mr. Muhlendorf was appointed by the City Council of Florence to serve on the Florence-Lauderdale County Convention and Visitors Bureau Board, serving the board as treasurer and Chairman. In addition, he served on the Board of the United Group (Monroe, La) and Network Associates (Chicago, Il).
Currently Mr. Muhlendorf serves on the board of PARCA, The Alabama Technology Network Advisory Board, The University of Alabama Planned Giving Board, Helen Keller Hospital Foundation Board, The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Board and Leadership Alabama.
He is a graduate of Leadership Shoals and Leadership Alabama. He was the recipient of the Gold award from the Alabama Easer Seal Society, Executive of the Year by the Shoals Chapter of the International Association of Office Professionals (1988), and the Shoals Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year (2008).
Mr. Muhlendorf lives in Florence with Liz, his wife of 50 years. The couple have two children, Adam (43), Julie (35) who are graduates of the University of Alabama and one granddaughter Evelyn.
